Almost every day of the week I do an email adswap with other list builders. The message I received below is from a subscriber that had an issue with one of the adswap offers I was promoting…
“Hi John,
Did you make a mistake with the link in this email (Subject: FREE – $342/Day Facebook System!) to me? Why do I ask? Because it certainly does NOT lead to anything free! After a double optin, it leads to “The $6,000 A Month Club” which, if I purchase by 12/6 is 55% OFF for a grand total of $97 cost to me!
I’m not sure where Facebook comes in either. The only mention of Facebook is a statement on the sales page stating “it’s as easy as Facebook.”
I do visit your blog, FB page, have learned from your various tutorials and often optin to the offers that you recommend. Because of this, I respect you as a Marketer therefore, I am assuming that you made a mistake in the link provided in the above mentioned email I received rather than chalking it up to a sneaky marketing ploy to build a list and losing trust in you.
Fyi, I have already unsubscribed from the email from Danny Tizzle that I received from my optin. Therefore, I am not contributing to his list or purchasing his offer!
Sincerely,
[name withheld]”
Hi, thanks for the email.
There might be a couple of things at play here…
Sometimes there is an offer made after you opt in for a free gift (in this case the $342/day Facebook system), which is not related to the free gift. Unfortunately, many email marketers don’t make it obvious that they are showing you an offer.
The free gift should arrive via email (I check all the offers I promote to make sure they’re legitimate).
Another issue may be that the person offering the free gift is doing co-registration of opt in leads with other list builders. What this basically means is that when you opt in to someone’s list, you’re actually opting in to two, three or more other lists, that are owned by different people!
How, and if, this is legal is beyond me. But many list builders do it.
Why?
Because they’re not interested in building a long-term relationship with their list. It’s about getting as many leads in and out as possible and trying to make a quick buck. Sad but true.
Have you experienced this when you’ve opted in for a free offer? Leave a comment below!
