An excellent question was asked of me today;
“Hi John – You are not for Solo Ads – so what is the best alternative to building an email list?
Thanks, Jon”
Jon, first of all, thanks for asking.
Yes, I’m not for solo ads. And for those of you that don’t know why I’m not for solo ads, it’s because they deliver trash traffic and represent everything that I’m against as an email marketer.
Most solo ad providers today are ‘churn and burners’ that don’t care about their list.
Eventually solo ads will disappear from the scene, just like Traffic Exchanges and Giveaways did, because they’re being abused and overexploited.
So what is the best alternative to building an email list?
I’ll share with you what I do right now.
PPV
PPV is awesome. It’s cheap, effective and you can be super targeted to get traffic and leads from ANY niche.
I use and recommend both Trafficvance and LeadImpact. Research told me that these were the best two networks and they haven’t disappointed.
The only other one I have also tried was Media Traffic. The results were really bad.
Tip: When using PPV, or any other paid traffic source, always track your results. When first using PPV on a specific campaign, leads were costing me $10. Because of conversion tracking, my cost per lead has now gone down to $3 on average.
Youtube
Video marketing rocks for building a list.
There’s no better way to build trust, and to get free, targeted viral traffic, than through video marketing.
If you’re not using Youtube to get more exposure and leads you’re seriously missing out.
Videos are easy to create, and they will bring you in traffic for years to come.
Make them as funny or controversial as possible to get the best viral effect. Of course, be sure to mention your website, and to have a link to your website at the beginning of your video’s description.
Podcasting
I love podcasting. It’s free to get on iTunes and a lot of fun doing recordings.
Again, like video marketing, podcasting is one of the best ways to build trust and respect with your niche.
And just like video marketing, the amount of people you can reach is staggering.
Social Media
We hear so much about the importance of using social media in Internet Marketing so I won’t go into it much here, except to say that you should have a presence on Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram and LinkedIn.
Blogging
Have your own authority website or blog. Write in it as much as you can, and share you photos and videos.
Don’t make it a chore. Just create content based on what you are doing.
This post is a classic example. Jon asked me a question, and instead of replying just to him, I’m using this opportunity to share this content with everyone by publishing it on my blog
There’s lots of other ways to build a list, but I believe what I’ve mentioned here are the most effective ways, and are enough to keep any email marketer busy!
